पञ्चतंत्र - लब्धप्रणाश - भेद

न यत्र शक्यते कर्तुं साम दानमथापि वा |
भेदस्तत्र प्रयोक्तव्यो यतः स वशकारकः ||

When the enemy can not be placated then we must exercise compromise (concede some ground). If that is not possible, then one must try to explain situation using a contrast - good v/s bad. This contrast is the only way he can be brought under control
