देवा बुद्ध्या संयोजयन्ति

न देवा दण्डमादाय रक्षन्ति पशुपालवत् ।
यं हि रक्षितुमिच्छन्ति बुद्ध्या संयोजयन्ति ॥

The Gods do not hold sticks in their hands like shepherds and protect us. They just give enough wisdom in each of our minds to protect ourselves.
