सूक्तिमुक्तावली - सद्भक्ति

पषाणोऽम्भसि पतितो नहि बहुवर्षैरापि मृदुर्भवति
    मृत्स्नास्यत्तु तदात्वे जलमिश्रा सुबहुमृद्वि ।
तद्वत् दृढहरिभक्तः छलैः प्रसङ्गैस्सुदुस्सहैर्व्यथितः
    नस्यदमोभक्तः स्वल्पैरापि हेतुभिर्द्रुतं चलितः ॥

paaShANaH ambhasi patito nahi bahuvarshaiH api mRuduH bhavati
    mRutsnAsyattu tadaatve jalamishraa subahumRudvi ।
tadvat dRuDhaharibhaktaH ChalaiH prasangaiH sudussahaiH vyathitaH
    nasyadamobhaktaH svalpairapi hetubhiH drutam chalitaH ॥

When a stone is put in water, it will not melt for years. If you put a lump of mud, it will dirty the water almost immediately. This is the difference between a real devotee and a fake one. A real devotee will hold his belief in God through all miseries, troubles and illusions. A fake devotee will abandon his beliefs at the slightest discomfort.
