सूक्तिमुक्तावली - कृष्णाश्रितः साधुः

लोहासिः स्पर्शमणेः स्पर्शात्स्वर्णासितां लभते ।
नपुनर्निहन्ति जन्तुं तद्वत्कृष्णाश्रितः साधुः ॥

- सूक्तिमुक्तावली

loha asiH sparshamaNEH sparshAt svarNa asitam labhate ।
na punaH nihanti jantum tadvat kRuShNAshritaH sAshuH ॥

An iron sword will turn into a gold sword when it comes in contact with the touchstone. After that it can kill any being. Similarly anyone who comes takes refuge in Lord Krishna will become virtuous and never hurt anyone.

मधुसूदनसरस्वती - ध्यान

ध्यानाभ्यासवशीकृतेन मनसा तन्निर्गुणं निष्क्रियं
    ज्योतिः किंछन योगिनो यदि परं पश्यन्ति पश्यन्तु ते ।
अस्माकं तु तदेव लोचनचमत्काराय भूयाच्चिरं
    कालिंदीपुलिनोदरे किमपि यन्नीलं महो धावति ॥

dhyAnAbhyAsa vashIkRutena manasA tannirguNaM niShkriyam
    jyotiH kiMchana yogino yadi paraM pashyanti pashyantu te ।
asmAkam tu tadeva lochana chamatkArAya bhUyAt chiram
    kAlindI pulinaH udare kimapi yannIlam maho dhAvati ॥

Let the saints see God in the form of a formless, quality-less, activity-less entity or a light. This may be possible since they have mastered the process of meditation. Let them have their ways. But for us, let God be always seen as that blue boy running and playing on the sands of Yamuna (Sri Krishna).

वेदान्तदेशिक - दत्ते स्म वित्तेशताम्

क्षोणीकोणशतांशपालनकलादुर्वारगर्वानल
     क्षुभ्यत् क्षुद्रनरेन्द्रचाटुरचनाधन्यान् न मन्यामहे ।
देवं सेवितुमेव निश्चनुमहे योऽसौ दयाळुः पुरा
     धानामुष्टिमुचे कुचेलमुनये दत्ते स्म वित्तेशताम् ॥

kShoNIkoNashatAMshapAlanakalAdurvAragarvAnala
     kShubhyat kShudranarendracATuracanAdhanyAn na manyAmahe ।
devaM sevitumeva nishninumahe yaH asau dayALuH purA
     dhAnAmuShTimuce kucelamunaye datte sma vitteshatAm ॥

We will not respect any scholar who finds satisfaction in praising a king who rules one small corner of this huge world. We will serve only that Lord Krishna who gave wealth equal to that of Kubera (God of wealth) to Kuchela in return for handful of parched rice.

वेदान्तदेशिक - शरीरपतनावधि

शरीरपतनावधि प्रभुनिषेवणापादनात्
     अबिंधनधनंजयप्रशमदं धनं दंधनम् ।
ध्नंजयविवर्धनं धनमुदूडहोवर्धनं
     सुसाधनमबाधनं सुमनसां समाराधनम् ॥

sharIrapatanAvadhi prabhuniShevaNApAdanAt
     abiMdhanadhanaMjayaprashamadaM dhanaM dandhanaM ।

All the wealth accumulated to mitigate hunger by working for a king all life long is of no use. The only wealth that is permanent and worthwhile is the memory of Sri Krishna who protected Arjuna, who lifted Goverdhana mountain, who can make all troubles go away, who will satiate the hunger of knowledge of all wise men.

भक्तिरसायन - स्मर्तव्यः सततं कृष्णो

स्मर्तव्यः सततं कृष्णो विस्मर्तव्यो न जातुचित् ।
सर्वे विधिनिषेधाः स्युरेतयोरेव किंकराः ॥

smartavyaH satataM kRuShNo vismartavyo na jAtucit ।
sarve vidhiniShedhAH syuretayoreva kinkarAH ॥

All rituals are corollaries of the these two basic rules - "Always remember Sri Krishna. Never forget him".

हर्यष्टक - हरि

स गंगा स गया सेतुस्स काशी स च पुष्करं ।
जिह्वाग्रे वर्तते यस्य हरिरित्यक्षरद्वयम् ॥

- हर्यष्टक

sa gangA sa gayA setuH sa kAshI sa ca puShkaraM ।
jihvAgre vartate yasya hariHiti akSharadvayam ॥

- haryaShTaka

He who has the name of 'Hari' at the tip of his toungue at all times is as holy as the Ganga, the Gaya, the Sethu (Rama sethu), the Kashi, the Pushkar.

- Haryashtaka

स्मेराननं स्मरति गोपवधूकिशोरम्

शैवा वयं न खलु तत्र विचारणीयम्
    पञ्चाक्षरीजपपरा नितरां तथापि ।
चतो मदीयमतसीकुसुमावभासं
     स्मेराननं स्मरति गोपवधूकिशोरम् ॥

shaivA vayaM na khalu tatra vicAraNIyaM
     panchAkSharIjapaparA nitarAM tathApi ।
ceto madIyamatasIkusumAvabhAsaM
     smerAnanaM smarati gopavadhUkishoram ॥

We are the followers of Shiva. There is no doubt. We spend our time chanting the five syllable hymn - Om namah shivaya. But my mind always cherishes the memory of the lovely dark flower like face of the son of a cattle grazer (Sri Krishna).

यशोदया समा

यशोदया समा कापि देवतनां तु भूतले ।
उलूखले यया बद्धो मुक्तिदो मुक्तिमिच्छति ॥

yashodayA samA kApi devatAnAm tu bhUtale।
ulUkhale yayA baddho muktido muktimicchati ॥

There is no one equal to Yashodha even in the group of Gods. While every one is trying to free themselves from the bondage the only one who can free them all (Krishna) is trying to free himself from Yashodha.

रसगंगाधर - कृष्ण

मृद्वीका रसिता सिता समशिता स्फीतं निपीतं पयः
    स्वर्यातेन सुधाप्यधायि कतिधा रम्भाधरः खंडितः ।
तत्त्वं ब्रूहि मदीयजीव भवता भूयो भवे भ्राम्यता
कृष्णेत्यक्षरयोरयं मधुरिमोद्गारः क्वचिल्लक्षितः ॥

mRudvIkA rasitA sitA samashitA sphItaM nipItaM payaH
    svaryAtena sudhApyadhAyi katidhA rambhAdharaH khanDitaH ।
tattvaM brUhi madIyajIva bhavatA bhUyo bhave bhrAmyatA
    kRuShNa iti akSharayoH ayaM madhurimodgAraH kvachillakShitaH ॥

My dear life (and all past lives)! you have tasted grapes, sugar, creamy milk. You must have even tasted elixir on your visit to heaven. You would have already kissed Rambha (celestial beauty) on her lips. In this life also, you have traveled all world. Tell me, have you ever experienced any joy similar to what you get when you utter the name of 'Krishna'?

न स्मरसि त्वमात्मानम्

पथि धावन्निह पतितो रोदिष्यंबाकरावलंबाय ।
पतितोद्धारणसमये किं न स्मरसि त्वमात्मानम् ॥

pathi dhAvann iha patito rodiShya ambAkarAvalambAya ।
patita uddhAraNa samaye kim na smarasi tvam AtmAnam ॥

Oh! Krishna, you are playing the role of a small kid who has fallen down while running and is crying to get mother's attention. You want her to come and help you get up. Do you not remember your own plight when your devotees cry for help when they are stuck in this world?

भागवतमाहात्म्य - कृष्ण भक्ति

नृणां जन्मसहस्रेण भक्तौ प्रीतिर्हि जायते ।
कलौ भक्तिः कलौ भक्तिः भक्त्या कृष्णः पुरः स्थितः ॥

- भागवतमाहात्म्य

nRuNAm janma sahasreNa bhaktau prItiH hi jAyate ।
kalau bhakthiH kalau bhakthiH bhakthyA KrishnaH puraH sthitaH ॥

- bhAgavata mAhAtmya

Oh! King, after thousands of births will one get to understand the true meaning of devotion towards God. Devotion alone is the means to please him in the epoch of Kali. Only through devotion can one see Krishna standing in front of them.

भक्तिरसायन - कृष्ण

दौर्भाग्यमिन्द्रियाणां कृष्णे विषये हि शाश्वतिके ।
क्षणिकेषु पापकरणेष्वपि सज्जन्ते यदन्यविषयेषु ॥

- भक्तिरसायन

daurbhAgyam indriyANAm kRuShNe viShaye hi shAshvatike ।
kShaNikeShu pApakaraNeShu api sajjante yat anyaviShayeShu ॥

- bhaktirasAyana

It is very unfortunate that the senses choose to indulge in all things that are temporary and which could lead a man to Sin. They should have indulged themselves in everything to do with Lord Krishna - see him, listen to him, chant his name and so on. This is the only kind of indulgence that is free from sin.

- Bhaktirasayana

यावत्कृष्ण न ते जनाः

तावद्रागादयःस्तेनास्तावत्कारागृहं गृहम् ।
तावन्मोहो अंघ्रिनिगडो यावत्कृष्ण न ते जनाः ॥

tAvat rAgAdayaH stenAH tAvat kArAgRuhaM gRuham ।
tAvat moho anghri nigaDo yAvat kRuShNa na te janAH ॥

Oh Krishna, when you are not with people thieves like sensory pleasures will steal your life. House will be like a prison. Attachment will be like heel chains.

Krishna

जीर्णा तरिः

जीर्णा तरिः सरिदियं च गभीरनीरा
    नक्राकुला वहति वायुरतिप्रचंडः ।
तार्या स्त्रियश्च शिशवश्च तथैव वृद्धाः
    तत्कर्णधारभुजयोर्बलमाश्रयामः ॥

jIrNA tariH sarit iyam cha gabhIranIrA
    nakrAkulA vahati vAyuH ati prachanDaH ।
tAryA striyaScha shishavashcha, tathaiva vRuddhAH
    tatkarNadhAra bhujayoH balam AshrayAmaH ॥

The boat is broken. The river (of samsaara) is deep. There are dangerous crocodiles in the river and storm is raging. We have to get the women, children and old people across. So, let us rely on the prowess of the boatman (Krishna).

गोपाल इति मत्वा

गोपाल इति मत्वा त्वां प्रचुरक्षीरवांछया ।
श्रितो मातुः स्तनक्षीरमपि लब्धुं न शक्नुयाम् ॥

gopAla iti matvA tvAm prachura kShIra vAnChayA ।
shrito mAtuH stana kShIram api labdhum na shaknuyAm ॥

I thought you are a cowherd and came to your refuge looking forward to drink as much milk as I want. But your acquaintance has robbed me of the chance to drink milk from my own mother again. (by giving salvation and hence excused from being born again)
