अनर्घराघव - गुरुः

स्थानेषु शिष्यनिवहैर्विनियुज्यमाना
    विद्या गुरुं हि गुणवत्तरमातनोति ।
आदाय शुक्तिषु बलाहकविप्रकीर्णैः
    रत्नाकरो भवति वारिभिरंबुराशिः ॥

sthAneShu shiShyanivahaiH viniyujyamAnA
    vidyA guruM hi guNavattaram Atanoti ।
AdAya shuktiShu balAhakaviprakIrNaiH
    ratnAkaro bhavati vAribhiH aMburAshiH ॥

If the students make good use of the education they got from the teacher, the teacher has to be given credit for it. It only shows his greatness. If a drop of pure water from the clouds falls as rain into the sea, it is up to the sea to see that it reaches an oyster and becomes a pearl. Only because the sea is able to do this, he is also called a gem-maker.

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - महिमानं

देशः कालः पात्रं वितरति वित्तस्य कमपि महिमानं ।
अब्धितले शुक्तिपुटे स्नातं घनतोयमेति मणिभावम् ॥

When one distributes his wealth in charity, the world (space, time and forces) seems to be working towards making him achieve greatness. A drop of fresh water from the clouds that enters the ocean selflessly gets trapped in a oyster and becomes a pearl.

मालविकाग्निमित्र - गुरु

पात्रविशेषे न्यस्तं गुणांतरं व्रजति शिल्पमाधातुः |
जलमिव समुद्रशुक्तौ मुक्ताफलतां पयोदस्य ||

Under the able guidance of a teacher (who understands your strengths) even a stone can attain greatness. Just like a drop of pure water from the rain into a sea will be transformed into a pearl if it is nutured in an oyster.
