रामायणमञ्जरी - किष्किन्धा - मित्राणां सहाय


पदस्था विषमस्थानां मित्राणां न भवन्ति ये ।
आयासिता तैर्जननी गर्भभारेण केवलम् ॥

padasthA viShamasthAnAm mitrANAm na bhavanti ye ।
AyAsitA taiH jananI garbha bhAreNa kevalam ॥

Those who do not help their friends in distress in spite of occupying high positions of power as useless alive. They only troubled their mothers by burdening her during pregnancy. There is no other achievement during their lives.

रामायण मञ्जरी - अरण्य - अविवेक


अभावावधयो भावा निधनावधि जीवितम् ।
अविवेकस्त्वनवधिर्येनायं जायते भ्रमः ॥

abhAvAvadhayo bhAvA nidhanAvadhi jIvitam ।
avivekaH tu anvadhiH yena jAyate bhramaH ॥

- rAmAyaNamanjarI, araNya


All materials come with a definite date by which it will get destroyed. Some early, some late. But foolishness has no such date. It lives on and on. That creates all these illusions.

रामायणमञ्जरी - अरण्य - सत्यं राज्ञां विभूषणम्


वैराग्यमिव वृद्धानामौचित्यं महतामिव |
शुचिशीलमिवार्याणां सत्यं राज्ञां  विभूषणम् ||

To be free from worldly desires is an old man's duty. To be humble is the duty of the virtuous. To be clean and chaste is the duty of any person who expects respect. To be truthful to his responsibilities is the fore most duty of a king.

रामायणमंजरी - अरण्य - चराः


कवीनां प्रतिभा चक्षुः शास्त्रं चक्षुर्विपश्चिताम् |
ज्ञानं चक्षुर्महर्षीणां चराश्चक्षुर्महीक्षिताम् ||


- रामायणमंजरी, अरण्य


For poets - their talent is their eyes. Scriptures are the eyes of a wise man. Knowledge (about the universe) is the eye of a sage. A king has his spies as his eyes.
