रामायण - सुंदरकाण्ड - क्रोध


यः समुत्पतितं क्रोधं क्षमयैव निरस्यति ।
यथोरगस्त्वचं जीर्णां स वै पुरुष उच्यते ॥

yaH samutpitam krodham kShamA iva nirasyati ।
yathoragaH tvacham jIrNAm sa vai puruSha uchyate ॥

A snake grows out of its skin, thereby shedding it. He alone can be called a complete man who can grow out of his anger using his patience.

रामायण - सुन्दरकाण्ड - मनः


मनो हि हेतुः सर्वेषामिन्द्रियाणां प्रवर्तने ।
शुभाशुभास्ववस्थासु तच्च मे सुव्यवस्थितम् ॥

mano hi hetoH sarveShAm indriyANAm pravartane ।
shubha ashubhAsu avasthAsu taccha me suvyavasthitam ॥

Mind is the driver of all senses. It is the cause of all good and bad. When my mind is under my control, why should I worry? (as told by Hanumantha on seeing all the ladies in Ravana's harem in Lanka)

रामायण - सुन्दरकाण्ड - क्रोधः


क्रुद्धः पापं न कुर्यात् कः क्रुद्धो हन्याद्गुरूनपि ।
क्रुद्धः पुरुषया वाचा नरः साधूनधिक्षिपेत् ॥

kRuddhaH pApaM na kuryAt kaH kRuddho hanyadgurUnapi ।
kRuddhaH puruShAya vAchA naraH sAdhUn adhikShipet ॥

Who does not commit sins when he is angry? People are known to kill even their teachers even when they are angry. An angry person is even capable of hurting a noble man which could land him in trouble. So, one must not give himself into anger.

अकृतात्मानमासाद्य राजानमनये रतम् |
समृद्धानि विनश्यन्ति राष्ट्राणि नगराणि च ||

If a person who has not overcome his senses, one who believes in sensory pleasures is made the king, then in spite of all the wealth, such nations and cities will get destroyed.
