सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - श्रीः

सा श्रीर्या न मदं कुर्यात्स सुखी तृष्णयोज्झितः ।
तन्मित्रं यत्र विश्वासः पुरुषः स जितेंद्रियः ॥

Money is called wealth only when it does not intoxicate you. You can be happy only when you don't have any desires. He is a friend only when he can be trusted. One can be called as a man only when he can control his senses.

भागवत - उपेक्षित

यथामयोंऽगे समुपेक्षितो नृभि-
    र्न शक्यते रूढपदश्चिकित्सितुम् ।
यथेंद्रियग्राम उपेक्षितस्तथा
    रिपुर्महान् बद्धबलो न चाल्यते ॥

shabdAdibhiH panchabhiH eva pancha panchatvam ApuH svaguNena baddhAH ।

The five senses are sound, touch, sight, taste and smell. Animals that are slaves of any one of them often pay the price by their life. A deer follows the sound (of its calf) and becomes a prey. An elephant is enslaved by its vulnerability of touch behind the head. A moth is driven to the flame by its sight. A fish is baited by its longing for taste. A bee loses its life when it gets trapped in the lotus which attracted it by smell. What can now be told of a man who is driven by all the five senses?

शब्दः स्पर्शश्च रूपं च रसो गंधश्च पञ्चमः ।
एकैकमलमेतेषां विनाशप्रतिपत्तये ॥

Sound, touch, form (beauty), taste and smell are the five senses. Any one of them alone is capable of destroying you completely.

वपुः कुब्जीभूतं गतिरपि तथा यष्टिशरणा
    विशीर्णा दंतालिः श्रवणविकलं श्रोत्रयुगलम् ।

    मनो मे निर्लज्जं तदपि विषयेभ्यः स्पृहयति ॥

vapuH kubjI bhUtam gatirapi tathA yaShti sharaNA
    vishIrNA dAntAliH shravaNa vikalam shrotra yugalam ।
shiraH shuklam chakShuH timira paTalaiH AvRutamaho
    mano me nirlajjam tadapi viShayebhyaH spRuhayati ॥

My body is shrinked. I need a stick to move aroung. My teeth are all gone. Both the ears have stopped hearing. My hair has turned white. Darkness covers my eyes. But my mind is still shameless. It is still longing for sensory pleasures.

भागवत - इंद्रियाणि

वर्जयेत् प्रमदागाथामगृहस्थो बृहद्व्रतः ।
इंद्रियाणि प्रमाथीनि हरंत्यपि यतेर्मनः ॥

He who is not a married man, some one who has taken up a big mission should give up talking about women. These sensory pleasures have the ability to corrupt and destroy any one's mind; even a saint's.

शुभाशुभास्ववस्थासु तच्च मे सुव्यवस्थितम् ॥

mano hi hetoH sarveShAm indriyANAm pravartane ।
shubha ashubhAsu avasthAsu taccha me suvyavasthitam ॥

Mind is the driver of all senses. It is the cause of all good and bad. When my mind is under my control, why should I worry? (as told by Hanumantha on seeing all the ladies in Ravana's harem in Lanka)

सौन्दरनंद - इंद्रियाणि

भेतव्यं न तथा शत्रोर्नाग्नेर्नाहेर्न चाशनेः ।
इंद्रियेभ्यो यथा स्वेभ्यस्तैरजस्रं हि हन्यते ॥

bhetavyaM na tathA shatrornAgnernAherna cha ashaneH ।
indriyebhyo yathA svebhyaH taiH rajasraM hi hanyate ॥

One need not be fearful of his enemies, fire, snake or the lightning. One must very afraid of his senses. It is these senses that can drag him to doing deeds that are harmful himself. They are acting on such plans all the time.

Man has five sense organs. Even if he loses one of them, his mind will deteriorate - just like water in a leather bag with a hole.

जीयंतां दुर्जया देहे रिपवश्चक्षुरादयः ।
जितेषु ननु लोकोऽयं तेषुकृत्स्नस्त्वया जितः ॥

jIyantAm durjayA deha ripavaH cakShuH AdayaH ।
jiteShu nanu loko ayam teShu kRutsnaH tvayA jitaH ॥

One must control the enemies with in his own body - eyes and other senses. If one has control over them, then it is equivalent to have won over the whole world.

अभिज्ञानशाकुन्तल - परपरिग्रह

कुमुदान्येव शशांकः सविता बोधयति पंकजान्येव ।
वशिनां हि परपरिग्रहसंश्लेषपराज्ञ्मुखी वृत्तिः ॥

kumudAni eva shashAnkaH savitA bodhayati pankajAni eva ।
vashinAM hi paraparigraha saMshleSha parAnmukhI vRutttiH ॥

Moon blooms water lilies. Sun blooms the lotuses. Both of them are in the same pond, yet one does not bloom the other flowers. Those who have their sense under control are like the sun and the moon; they have least interest with things that belong to others.

इन्द्रियाण्येव तत्सर्वं यत्स्वर्गनरकाविभौ ।
निगृहीतविसृष्टानि स्वर्गाय नरकाय च ॥

The key to heaven or hell is in how we manage our senses. If you let them take control of you then it is hell. If you control them then it is heaven.
