पञ्चतंत्र - स्वप्न

शुभं वा यदि वा पापं यन्नृणां हृदि संस्थितम् ।
सुगूढमपि तज्ञेयं स्वप्नवाक्यात्तथा मदात् ॥

shubham vA yadi vA pApam yat nRuNAm hRudI samsthitam ।
su gUDhamapi tat jneyam svapna vAkyAt tathA madAt ॥

It does not matter whether it is good, bad, sinful or how deep it is buried. Everything will come out in dream talk or when intoxicated.

वैकल्यं धरणीपातमयथोचितजल्पनम् ।
संनिपातस्य चिह्नानि मद्यं सर्वाणि दर्शयेत् ॥

Extreme anxiety, falling on the ground often, talking meaninglessly are all the signs of one losing his mind. Consuming alcohol also displays same symptoms.

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - मद्य

अकार्य करणात् भीतः कार्याणां च विवर्जनात् ।
अकाले मन्त्रभेदात् च येन माद्येन्न तत् पिबेत् ॥

akAryakaraNAdbhItaH kAryANAm ca vivarjanAt ।
akAle mantrabhedAccha yena mAdyenna tatpibet ॥

- subhaShitasudhAnidhi

Such is the effect of alcohol. It makes you do wrong things. It makes you miss doing the right things. It makes you let out secrets.

रामायण - किष्किन्धा - मद्यपान

न हि धर्मार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं पानमेवं प्रशस्यते ।
पानादर्थश्च धर्मश्च कामश्च परिहीयते ॥

Intoxication is not conducive to following Dharma or gaining wealth. If one continues to drink, he will not be able to follow Dharma, accumulate wealth or enjoy lust.
