सूक्तिमुक्तावली - कीर्तन

तरुमूले संस्थायाशोभनपतगान् सनामतालिकया
    दूरीकरोति मनुजो यथा तथा हीशचिन्तने मग्नः ।
परमेशस्यहि नाम्नां सतालिकेनेह मधुरगानेन
    उत्सारयति निरोधैस्स्वान्तस्य च वासनाः कुपरिणामाः ॥

taru mUle samsthAya ashobhana patagAn sanAma tAlikayA
    dUrIkaroti manujo yathA tathA hi iishachintane magnaH।
parameshasyahi nAmnAm satAlikena iha madhuragAnena
    utsArayati nirodhaiH svAntasya cha vAsanAH kupariNAmAH ॥

One who wants to sleep under a tree will call names and clap to drive out all the inauspicious birds (cacophony - crows, owls, etc..). Similarly, if one is interested in deep thinking about God, then he must sing songs about the Lord himself to drive out all the evil influences from his surroundings as well as with in himself.

पञ्चतन्त्र - मित्रसंप्राप्ति - अध्रुवं नष्टमेव च

यो ध्रुवाणि परित्यज्य अध्रुवाणि निषेवते।
ध्रुवाणि तस्य नश्यन्ति अध्रुवं नष्टमेव च ॥

yo dhruvANi parityajya adhruvANi niShevate।
dhruvANi tasya nashyanti adhruvaM naShTameva ca ॥

If one leaves the 'permanent' and runs behind the 'temporary' - he will end up losing both. The permanent is lost and the temporary would never have lasted anyway.
