गरुडपुराण - स्थानभ्रष्टा न पूज्यंते

स्थानस्थितानि पूज्यंते पूज्यंते च पदे स्थिताः ।
स्थानभ्रष्टा न पूज्यंते कुशा दंता नखा नराः ॥

- गरुडपुराण

sthAna sthitAni pUjante pUjante cha pade sthitAH ।
sthAna bhraShTA na pUjante kushA dantA nakhA narAH ॥

- garuDapurANa

Things that are in their useful positions and in helpful roles are respected. They will no longer be respected if they lose the position or cease to be helpful. Just like the holy grass, teeth, finer and toe nails. This applies to people as well.

सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - मैत्रीभङ्ग षट्

विवादो धनसंबंधो याचनं स्त्रीषु संगतिः ।
आदानामग्रतः स्थानं मैत्रीभङ्गस्य हेतवः ॥

vivAdo dhana sambandho yAchanam strIShu sangatiH ।
aadAnaam agrataH sthAnam maitrI bhangasya hetavaH ॥

- subhAShitaratnabHANDAgAra

These are known to cause harm to friendship - getting involved in public controversy, money matters, begging, women, borrowing or changing social status.
