One may be handsome, with good character, born to a good family and have lot of wealth - yet he will not be accepted if he is not well educated. Education is the ornament that every one is looking for.

सरसो विपरीतश्चेत् सरसत्वं न मुंचति ॥

A person may be educated. But under stress if he is not able to control himself, then he will only be a 'rakshasa' - evil. But on the other hand, if a mild person is able to retain his composure he will be called 'sarasatva' even if he is not educated.
[Translator's note: Pun here is literate (sAkshara) will be evil easily (rAkshasa). But one with mild manners (sarasa) will retain his mildness (sarasatva, close to goddess of wisdom.)]

It is very true what the ancient sages have spoken - What is not be yours, you will never get it. Even when the earth is so abundant with water, for the chataka bird it is as good as a desert. Chataka (Cucculus melanoleucus) is said to subsist only on rain water freshly poured from the clouds drinking it before it reaches the ground.

सरसां सेतुभेदाय वर्षौघः स च न स्थिरः ॥

A pot that is filled completely will not make any sound. A half filled pot will make a lot of noise. Virtuous scholars born to good families will not show off their talent. A fool without any good qualities will however talk a lot.
