सूक्तिमुक्तावली - सावधान गृहस्थ

गेहाधीशः सावधानश्चेत् चोरा न विशन्तिहि ।
अन्तः सौजन्यचोरोऽसद्विचारो न विशेत्तदा ॥

- सूक्तिमुक्तावली

gehAdhIshaH sAvadhAnaH chet choraa na vishanti hi ।
antaH saujanya choro asadvichAro na vishet tadA ॥

- sUktimuktAvalii

If the head of the family is careful, thieves will not be able to get into the house. This applies to thieves who rob the family of their virtuous ways by corrupting their thought with rogue ideas.

गरुडपुराण - गृहेऽपि मोक्षः

स्वकर्मधर्मार्जितजीवितानां
    शास्त्रेषु दारेषु सदा रतानाम् ।
जितेंद्रियाणामतिथिप्रियाणां
    गृहेऽपि मोक्षः पुरुषोत्तमानाम् ॥

sva karma dharma arjita jIvitAnAm
    shAstreShu dAreShu sadA ratAnAm ।
jitendriyANAm atithi priyANAm
    gRuhe api mokShaH puruShottamAnAm ॥

- garuDapurANa

It is salvation right in the middle of running household for those who - earn their living by doing moral acts only, who are always in the company of scriptures or their wives, who have their senses under their control and who loves to serve guests.

भारतमंजरी - गृहस्थ

ईहंते सर्वभूतानि तदिदं कर्मसंज्ञितम् ।
सिद्धिक्षेत्रमिदं पुण्यमयमेवाश्रमो महान् ॥

eehante sarva bhUtAni tadidam karma sanjitam ।
siddhi kShetram idam puNyamayam eva aashramo mahAn ॥

All the beings of the world depend on this state of man - running a household. In this state, a lot of importance is given to action - which sustains the cycle of actions in the whole world. This is a state reachable by people who have done good deeds before.

भागवत - गृह

यदि स्याद् गृहे माता पत्नी वा पतिदेवता ।
व्यंगे रथ इव प्राज्ञः को नामासीत दीनवत् ॥

yadi na syAd gRuhe mAtA patnI vA patidevataa ।
vyange ratha iva prAjnaH ko nAma AsIta dInavat ॥

- bHAgavata

A household without a mother or a chaste wife is crippled like a broken chariot. It makes one truly miserable. Who in their right mind would continue to live in that?

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - गृहस्थः

दूरादतिथयो यस्य गृहमायांति निर्वृताः ।
गृहस्थः स तु विज्ञेयः शेषास्तु गृहरक्षिणः ॥

dUrAt atithayaH yasya gRuham AyAnti nirvRutAH ।
gRuhasthaH sa tu vijneyah sheShAstu gRuha rakShiNaH ॥

If guests come from far off places and spend time happily with you, only then can you be called as a good household man. The rest of the men are just guarding the house.
