रघुवंश - बहुधाप्यागमैर्भिन्नाः

बहुधाप्यागमैर्भिन्नाः पंथानः सिद्धिहेतवः ।
त्वय्येव निपतत्योघा जाह्नवीया इवार्णवे ॥

bahudhA api AgamaiH bhinnAH panthAnaH siddhihetavaH ।
tvayyeva nipatanti oghA jAhnavIyA ivArNave ॥

There are many sects in this world who differ just in their way of worship and path taken to reach God. But just like all tributaries of Ganga reach the same ocean, all the sects reach the same God in spite of differences in the path taken.

रघुवंश - विद्वान्

स्वशरीरशरीरिनावपि श्रुतसंयोगविपर्ययौ यदि ।
विरहः किमिवानुतापयेद्वद बाह्यैर्विषयैर्विपश्चिताम् ॥

svasharIra sharIriNAvapi shruta samyoga viparyayau yadi ।
virahaH kimiva anutApayet vada bAhyaiH viShayaiH vipashchitAm ॥

A scholar realizes that the life inside our own body is itself not permanent. Why should one be sad when one parts with material attachments of the outside world?

रघुवंश - मृत्यु

मरणं प्रकृतिः शरीरिणां विकृतिर्जीवितमुच्यते बुधैः ।
क्षणमप्यवतिष्ठते श्वसन् यदि जन्तुर्ननु लाभावानसौ ॥

maraNam prakRutiH sharIriNAm vikRutiH jIvitam uchyate budhaiH ।
kShaNam api avatiShThate shvasan yadi jantuH nanu lAbhAvAn asau ॥

Death is the natural steady state of nature. Life is an aberration. Wise men realize this. Even if one is alive for just a second, he must consider himself in profit.

रघुवंश - मूढचेतनः

अवगच्छति मूढचेतनः प्रियनाशं हृदि शल्यमर्पितम् ।
स्थिरधीस्तु तदेव मन्यते कुशलद्वारतया समुद्धृतम् ॥

avagacChati mUDhacetanaH priyanAsham hRudi shalyamarpitam ।
sthiradhIH tu tadeva manyate kushaladvAratayA samuddhRutam ॥

When one loses his loved ones, a fool drowns himself in grief as if a spear went through his heart. But a stable minded person would consider the same as an opportunity to let go of attachments (and there by attain salvation) and would be unfazed by the situation.

रघुवंश - अंगलीवोरगक्षता

द्वेष्योऽपि संमतः शिष्टः तस्यार्तस्य यथौषधम् ।
त्याज्यो दुष्टः प्रियोऽप्यासीत् अंगलीवोरगक्षता ॥

- रघुवंश

A sick person must take medicine even if it is not tasty. Even though a person is rough he may be required for the state machinery to run smoothly. A rogue must be kept at a distance even though he is a close relative - Just like a finger bitten by a snake must be cut off to spare the rest of the body.

रघुवंश - सुपुत्रः

लोकान्तरसुखं पुण्यं तपोदानसमुद्भवम् |
सन्ततिः शुद्धवंश्या हि परत्रेह च शर्मणे ||

If you want to be happy in your afterlife, then you have to do a lot of penance and charity in this life. But it is a good son (or daughter) brought up in righteous upbringing that can give you happiness both in this world as well as the after life.
