satya dharma vihInena sandadhyAt kathamchana ।
susandhito api asAdhutvaad achiraadyAti vikriyaam ॥

- panchatantra, kAkolUkIya

One must not enter into a treaty with a rogue - who does not believe in truth and dharma. You may think you have designed the treaty very well, but him being a rogue will rescind it very soon and become an enemy again.

garjati sharadi na varShati
    varShati varShAsu niHsvano meghaH ।
nIcho vadati na kurute
    na vadati sujanaH karotyeva ॥

- subhAShitasudhAnidhi

The clouds of Sharath season only roar - they do not shower. On the other hand, those in the Varsha season only shower and not roar. A lowly man will only talk and never act. A virtuous person will act and not bother to talk.

sangamayati vidyA iva nIchagApi naraM sarit ।
samudramapi durdashaM nRupaM bhAgyamataH param ॥

- hitopadesha

Just like water of any river flows lower and lower towards the sea, a rogue even if he is well educated will seek a bad king to serve. The result of both actions is the same - they get destroyed (both river and the rogue).

A sick person must take medicine even if it is not tasty. Even though a person is rough he may be required for the state machinery to run smoothly. A rogue must be kept at a distance even though he is a close relative - Just like a finger bitten by a snake must be cut off to spare the rest of the body.

A snake bites those who stamp over it, or beat it with a stick. Only the person who gets bitten by a snake dies. But the behavior of a rumor monger is strange. He bites one person's ears (with a rumor) and some one else gets destroyed all together.

- Panchatantra, Mitrabhedha
