A wise man will avoid these: a village without a person who understands God (to approach when troubled), a kings court that does not have wise advisors, face of someone who has not studied scriptures, a kingdom that does not have any king, a wife who does not follow Dharma and a poem that is not a story of God (in someway or other) and a teacher who does not teach well.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

There are many poems. But most people will not enjoy works that have only poems without any prose (vyAkhyAna?). Similarly scholars do not like a lot of prose without any poems in between. It is more pleasurable only when both of them are used together. Who will not like a dish that has mixed both honey and sweet grapes?

- vishvaguNAdarsha

A poem is well decorated only when it is pregnant with deep meaning. A charitable mind decorates a wealthy person. Valour decorates a person in power. Knowledge decorates a teacher. A good character decorates a person born in a good family. A great person is decorated by being accessible to everyone.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

Even in the times of Kali (present age) when sin is on the rise there will be virtuous people who will not abandon their traditions. They will not lose their mind. They will continue to serve wise men every day. They will always strive to help as many people as possible. They do this as if they owe it to them. They do not care about their own bodily luxuries. Their sole aim will be to serve the country.

analpakam dharAyAm hi sarvajnasyaapi dAruNAH ।
Aropayanti mAlinyaM kAkola iva te khalAH ॥

- vishvagunAdarsha

In this world, rogues will not let virtuous people live in peace. They smear them with false allegations. They did not even let Lord Shiva alone. They made him drink the Kalakuta poison.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

The Goddess of wealth glows in him and he glows in Sriranga (a holy city). I salute to that God. After that, my desires no longer exist.

- vishva guNAdarsha

A man may have many defects. But if he has pure devotion towards God in his heart, then even he will be revered and respected by other people. The ketaki plant is considered very sacred even when it is surrounded by poisonous snakes and big thorns.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

Lord Shiva wears animal hide, lives in a cemetery, has a snake around the neck - still he is so attractive and auspicious. The Lotus plant may be covered with moss and lichen, lives/blooms in mire, sprayed with discards of the bees - still it does looks beautiful.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

If one has strong devotion towards God, it will illuminate thick darkness, destroy the forest of sins, expands thoughts about God, gives various kinds of happiness. It will flood the mind again an again with elixir so that it can remain happy for ever.

timirebhyo na hi bhayam dIpaH chet labhyate mahAn ॥

- vishvaguNAdarsha

One need not be afraid of lapses (in his methods of rituals) id the devotion towards God is strong and true. No one will be afraid of darkness when he has the greatest lamp in his hand.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

Devotion towards God is alone enough to mitigate misery, endless cycle of births and ignorance.
One arrow from Lord Rama was enough to penetrate seven Sal trees as well as the underworlds all the way down to Rasatala. Such is the power of God and seeking His refuge is enough to get us out of misery.

- vishvaguNAdarsha

What is that sin that can does not wither way when one hurls himself (surrenders) at the lotus feet of Mukunda (Lord Vishnu) with palms closed and body prostrated? When one is given a potion of best medicine, then bad food can not harm him.

In a place where people do not study (vedas and other scriptures), even if there exists one rogue among hundreds (at least thousands) then he will lead all of them away from dharma (the moral code of life) as depicted in the scriptures. He will use his contorted logic and convince everybody else that his way of adharma (against dharma) is right.
