कलिविडंबन - यति

यदि न क्वापि विद्यायां सर्वथा क्रमते मतिः ।
मांत्रिकास्तु भविष्यामो योगिनो यतयोपि वा ॥

yadi na kvApi vidyAyaam sarvathA kramate matiH ।
mAntrikAstu bhaviShyAmo yogino yatayo api vA ॥

We could not learn any of the education streams since we could not understand them. But we will show off as the most knowledgeable people - magicians, saints or religious heads. That is when you know that you are living in the epoch of Kali (present times).

कलिविडंबन - धर्मोऽर्थसाधनम्

यत्र भार्यागिरो वेद यत्र धर्मोऽर्थसाधनम् ।
यत्र स्वप्रतिभा मानं तस्मै श्रीकलये नमः ॥

yatra bhAryA giro veda yatra dharma artha sAdhanam ।
yatra svapratibhA mAnam tasmai shrIkale namaH॥

You know that it is the time of Kali when people start considering words of their wives more seriously than the vedas, when living and preaching dharma becomes a means to earn livelihood, when everything is measured against self. We are definitely in that age.

प्रामाण्यबुद्धिः स्तोत्रेषु देवताबुद्धिरात्मनि ।
कीटबुद्धिर्मनुष्येषु नूतनायाः श्रियः फलम् ॥

prAmANya buddhiH stotreShu devatA buddhiH Atmani ।
kITa buddhiH manuShyeShu nUtanAyAH shriyaH phalam ॥

- kaliviDambana

Approving of praises, thinking oneself as God (in control of everything) and treating everyone else as insects - these are the effects of newly acquired wealth.

पराशर स्मृति - कलि युग

धर्मो जितो ह्यधर्मेण जितः सत्योऽनृतेन च ।
जिता भृत्यैस्तु राजानः स्त्रीभिश्च पुरुषा जिताः ॥

dharmo jito hi adharmeNa jitaH satyaH anRutena cha।
jitA bhRutyaiH tu rAjAnaH strIbhiH cha puruShA jitAH ॥

In the epoch of kali (the present age), Dharma will be overcome by immorality, Truth will be overshadowed by lies, servants will overthrow the kings and women will be in control of the men.

जिह्वा दग्धा परान्नेन हस्तौ दग्धौ प्रतिग्रहात् ।
परस्त्रीभिर्मनो दग्धं कथं सिद्धिः कलौ युगे ॥

jihvA dagdhA parAnnena hastau dagdhau pratigrahAt ।
parastrIbhiH mano dagdham katham siddhiH kalau yuge ॥

In the Epoch of Kali (present times), the tongue gets burnt by eating food given by others. The hands get burnt by taking money belonging to others. The mind is burnt by thinking about other women. What is the path to achievement then?

लुप्तधर्मक्रियाचारः घोरः कालो भविष्यति ॥

The coming times will be very scary. It will filled with various kinds of deceit. Sins will grow. People will follow Dharma less and less. (In Mahabharata, the following epoch of Kali is described thus)

अशुभपुषि कलावप्यप्रमत्ताः स्वधर्मा
    दनुदिनमुपकारानाचरन्तो बुधानाम् ।

    तनुसुखमपि हित्वा तन्वते देशसेवाम् ॥

Even in the times of Kali (present age) when sin is on the rise there will be virtuous people who will not abandon their traditions. They will not lose their mind. They will continue to serve wise men every day. They will always strive to help as many people as possible. They do this as if they owe it to them. They do not care about their own bodily luxuries. Their sole aim will be to serve the country.

हारिणो जनवित्तानां संप्राप्ते तु कलौ युगे ॥

In the times of Kali (present time), kings will not protect the subjects. They will loot them in the pretext of collecting taxes.

अनृतं चाटुवादश्च धनयोगो महानयं ।
सत्यं वैदुष्यमित्येष योगो दारिद्र्यकारकः ॥

satyaM vaiduShyamityeSha yogo dAridryakArakaH ॥

In the times of kali (present age) deceit and sycophancy will earn you money. Truth and uprightness will lead you to poverty.

ध्वन्यालोक - कलि

अतिक्रान्तसुखाः कालाः प्रत्युपस्थितदारुणाः ।
श्वः श्वः पापीयदिवसा पृथिवी गतयौवना ॥

atikrAnta sukhAH kAlAH pratyupasthita dAruNAH ।
shvaH shvaH pApIya divasA pRuthivI gata yauvanaa ॥

The good days are over. Days filled with misery are ahead. Every following day is more sinful than the previous. The earth is past its youth.

कलिविडंबना - कलिधर्म

यथा जानन्ति बहवो यथा वक्ष्यन्ति दातरी ।
तथा धर्मं चरेत् सर्वं वृथा धर्ममाचरेत् ॥

- कलिविडंबना

When one follows Dharma, he must let every one know about it. The donor must be praised in order to ensure future donations. Without these, it is not worth following Dharma. Such will be the times in the epoch of Kali (present times).

कलिविडंबन - मूर्ख

स्तोतारः के भविष्यन्ति मूर्खस्य जगतीतले |
न स्तौति चेत् स्वयं च स्वं कदा तस्यास्तु निवृतिः ||

If a fool does not priase himself, who else will do it for him in this entire world? Praising himself is the only pass time that he knows about.

वित्तमेव कलौ नृणां जन्माचारगुणॊदयः |
धर्मन्यायव्यवस्थायां कारणं बलमेव हि ||

In the epoch of Kali (present age) money assumes too much importance. It is what determines the nobility of the family you are born in, your character and all your qualities. He who has the money will be considered noble, of good character and believed to have good qualities. In the global system of morality, economy and justice - the mighty will always have their way. They derive their might from the money they possess.

भागवतमाहात्म्य - कलि

न योगि नैव सिद्धो वा न ज्ञानी सत्क्रियो नरः ।
कलिदावानलेनाद्य साधनं भस्मतां गतम् ॥

In the age of Kali (present time), his evil influence will burn everything like a wild fire. There are no people who are connected with the universe (God), no one who has accomplished, no one who has the knowledge, no one who is virtuous - no such people left. All the necessary infrastructure enabling people to achieve greatness is also burnt to ashes.

बृहत् पराशर स्मृति - कलौ तपस्विनः

धर्मश्च लोकदंभार्थं पाषाण्डार्थं तपस्विनः ।
विविधा वाग्वंचनार्थं कलौ सत्यानुसारिणी ॥

In the time of kali (present age) the Rishis will claim to follow dharma only to show off. Their words will be very convinsing like truth. But they are only meant to cheat you. All these are so unrighteous in nature.

भागवत माहात्म्य - कलिः

तरुणीप्रभुता गेहे श्यालको बुद्धिदायकः ।
कन्याविक्रयिणो लोभाद्दंपतीनां च कल्कनम् ॥

In the time of Kali (the present age) the following sins will be prevalent: women will have control of the family, the wife will listen to husband's brother more than her husband, girls will be sold for money, husband and wife will fight with each other a lot due to greed.

पराशर स्मृति - दान

तपः परं कृतयुगे त्रेतायां ज्ञानमुच्यते ।
द्वापरे यज्ञमित्यूचुः दानमेकं कलौ युगे ॥

Religious austerity is the way to attain salvation in Kruta yuga. Knowledge is the key in Treta yuga. Rituals is the convenient way in Dwapara yuga. In Kali yuga (present), charity is the only way to attain inner peace.

ततोऽनृतं मदं कामं रजो वैरं च पंचमम् ।
अमूनि पंचस्थानानि ह्यधर्मप्रभवः कलिः ॥

Kali's influence is usually wicked. His wickedness is usually expressed in five ways - dishonesty, intoxication, lust, impurity (of thought and action), enemity.
