बृहत् पराशर स्मृति - कलौ तपस्विनः

धर्मश्च लोकदंभार्थं पाषाण्डार्थं तपस्विनः ।
विविधा वाग्वंचनार्थं कलौ सत्यानुसारिणी ॥

In the time of kali (present age) the Rishis will claim to follow dharma only to show off. Their words will be very convinsing like truth. But they are only meant to cheat you. All these are so unrighteous in nature.

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - द्यूतासक्तः

धनक्षयः शिष्टगर्हा सदाचरविवर्जनम् ।
शतृभिः पीडनं चैव द्यूतासक्तधियां नृणाम् ॥

Being addicted to gambling will definitely have these effects on a person - loss of wealth, censure by virtuous people, shunning any virtuous conduct and even wrath from enemies.

- Subhashitasudhanidhi

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - द्यूत

द्यूतादनर्थः संरम्भो द्यूतात् स्नेहक्षयो महान् ।
पक्षाणां चापि महतां द्यूताद्भेदः प्रवर्तते ॥

- सुभाषितसुधानिधि

Gambling is the start of many bad habits leading to miserable times. It strains good friendships. It is known to cause rift even in otherwise strong cohesive groups (of friends).

मनु स्मृति - द्यूत

द्यूतमेतत्पुरा कल्पे दृष्टं वैरकरं महत् ।
तस्मात् द्यूतं न सेवेत हास्यार्थमपि बुद्धिमान् ॥

From history we have learnt that gambling begets enmity of great proportions. Hence a wise man will not indulge in gambling - not even for fun.

मनु स्मृति - दुराचारः

दुराचारो हि पुरुषः लोके भवति निंदितः ।
दुःखभागी च सततं व्याधितोऽल्पायुरेव च ॥

- मनु स्मृति, दुराचारः

A wicked person will definitely reap the results of his actions. He will always be scorned up on by virtuous people. He will always languish in misery. He will fall sick. He will definitely die early.

बृहत् पराशर स्मृति - कन्यादान

दूरस्थानामविद्यानां मोक्षधर्मानुयायिनाम् ।
शूराणां निर्धनानां च न देय कन्यका बुधैः ॥

- बृहत् पराशर स्मृति

A wise man will not give his daughter in marriage to these people - some living very far away, an uneducated person, a man who is only interested in seeking salvation, a madly courageous person or a poor person. While they may not have any glaring shortcomings the chances of long lasting happy married life is less with each of the above grooms.

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - आत्मशुद्धि

द्विजेन्द्रो वा कलाढ्यो वा कामाचारी भवेद्यदि ।
नित्यं निमज्जन्नप्यब्धौ नांतश्युद्धो भवत्यलम् ॥

- सुभाषितसुधानिधि, आत्मशुद्धि

No one can clean his inner self by taking bath in the ocean every day. It does not matter even if he is a brahmin, or an accomplished artist or a lustful person.
