One must not think that appearances do not matter at all. People judge the ability of a person by what he wears. During the great churning of the ocean, the king of the ocean gave his daughter Lakshmi to Vishnu seeing that he was wearing gold. He gave poison to Shiva since he was not wearing anything (smeared his body with ash).

If servant is very loyal, but neither intelligent nor brave then he is of o use. If he is both intelligent and brave but lacks loyalty, then again he is of no use.
