विष्णु पुराण - कलियुग

अरक्षितारो हर्तारश्युल्कव्याजेन पार्थिवाः ।
हारिणो जनवित्तानां संप्राप्ते तु कलौ युगे ॥

arakShitAro hartAH ashyulka vyaajena pArthivaH ।
hAriNo janavittAnAM samprApte tu kalau yuge ॥

In the times of Kali (present time), kings will not protect the subjects. They will loot them in the pretext of collecting taxes.

विष्णु पुराण - शरीर

क्व शरीरमशेषाणां श्लेषादीनां महाचयः ।
क्व कान्तिशोभासौन्दर्यरमणीयादयो गुणाः ॥

- विष्णु पुराण

kva sharIram ashEShANAm shleShAdInAM mahAchayaH ।
kva kAnti shobhA saundarya ramaNIya Adayo guNAH ॥

- viShNu purAna

On one side we have this body that has lot of impurities and imperfections. On the other side we have adjectives like - brilliance, distinguish merit, beauty, enchanting and so on. The two are worlds apart.

विष्णुपुराण - कर्म

कः केन हन्यते जन्तुर्जन्तुः कः केन रक्ष्यते ।
हन्ति रक्षति चैवात्मा ह्यसत्साधु समाचरन् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

kaH kena hanyate jantuH jantuH kaH kena rakShyate ।
hanti rakShati chaiva AtmA hi sat asAdhu samAcharan ॥

- viShNupurANa

Who can kill any one? Who can save any one from being killed? To kill, or to be saved from being killed are all results of one's own actions.

- Vishnupurana

विष्णुपुराण - सा विद्या या विमुक्तये

तत्कर्म यन्न बंधाय सा विद्या या विमुक्तये ।
आयासायापरं कर्म विद्यान्न शिल्पनैपुणम् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

That which does not create attachments is a good action. All other actions only drain your energy. Only the education that liberates is the right kind. All other education is like sculpturing.

विष्णुपुराण - ज्ञान

ज्ञानमेव परंब्रह्म ज्ञानं बंधाय कल्पते ।
ज्ञानात्मकमिदं विश्वं न ज्ञानाद्विद्यते परम् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

Knowledge is the ultimate truth. Knowledge enables us to relate to all other things. The whole world is realized only through knowledge. There is no parallel to knowledge.

विष्णुपुराण - स्वर्ग - नरक

मनःप्रीतिकरः स्वर्गः नरकस्तिद्विपर्यायः ।
नरकस्वर्गसंज्ञे वै पापपुण्ये द्विजोत्तम ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

What gives you happiness is heaven. The opposite is hell. When you do good deeds, your conscience makes you happy. When you hurt some one, it makes you sad. Hence the Heaven and Hell are also associated with doing good deeds and bad deeds respectively.

कर्मणा मनसा वाचा परपीडां करोति यः ।
तद्बीजं जन्म फलति प्रभूतं तस्य समाचरेत् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

If a person hurts others through his action, words or thought then its consequences will make him suffer in the subsequent lives.

- Vishnupurana

विष्णुपुराण - कर्म

कर्मणा जायते सर्वं कर्मैव गतिसाधनम् ।
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन साधु कर्म समाचरेत् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

Action leads to everything. Without action there would be nothing. Good action begets good results. Bad action begets misery. Hence one must always strive to do good deeds.

विष्णुपुराण - क्रोध

संचितस्यापि महता वत्स क्लेशेन मानवैः |
यशसस्तपसश्चैव क्रोधो नाशकरः परः ||

- विष्णुपुराण

People collect good qualities like fame and righteousness with all the hard work and care. But if they succumb to anger, then all of that goes away in an instant.

विष्णुपुराण - तृष्णा

या दुस्त्यजा दुर्मतिभिर्या न जीर्यति जीर्यतः |
तां तृष्णां संत्यजेत् प्राज्ञः सुखेनैवाभिपूर्यते ||

-विष्णुपुराण

Wicked people can not get rid of it. It does not get weaker in spite of you getting weaker due to old age. Such is the nature of greed. A wise man will realize that he has to distance himself from it. That is the only way he will be surrounded by happiness.

विष्णुपुराण - मनोरथ

मनोरथानां न समाप्तिरस्ति
    वर्षायुतेनापि तथाब्दलक्षैः |
पूर्णेषु पूर्णेषु मनोरथानां
    उत्पत्तयः सन्ति पुनर्नवानाम् ||

- विष्णुपुराण

There is no end to the desires. They never get satisfied even after a lakh years of prosperity. As and when some desires get fulfilled, some more are born.
