पठकाः पाठकाश्चैव ये चान्ये शास्त्रचिंतकाः ।
सर्वे व्यसनिनो मूर्खाः यः क्रियवान् स पण्डितः ॥

Students, teachers and thinkers are all addicted to logic, discussion and theory. All are fools. Only the guys who act are the real scholars.

प्रत्यहं प्रत्यवेक्षेत नरश्चरितमात्मनः ।
किं नु मे पशुभिस्तुल्यं किं नु सत्पुरुषैरिति ॥

पञ्चतंत्र - प्रयत्न

पश्य कर्मवशात् प्राप्तं भोज्यकालेऽपि भोजनम् ।
हस्तोद्यमं विना वक्त्रे प्रविशेन्न कथंचन ॥

Without action, there will be nothing in this world. Even when you sit to have food, the food will not enter your mouth without the work of the hands.

पञ्चरात्र - क्रतुः

इक्ष्वाकुशर्यातिययातिराममांधातृनाभागनृगांबरीषाः।
एते सकोशाः पुरुषाः सराष्ट्राः नष्टाः शरीरैः क्रतुभिर्धरन्ते ॥

ikShvAku sharyAti yayAti rAmamaMdhAtRu nAbhAga nRuga ambarIShAH ।
ete sakoshAH puruShA sarAShTrAH naShTAH sharIraiH kratubhiH dharante ॥

IkshvAku, Sharyati, Yayati, Rama, Mandhatru, Nabhaga, Nruga and Ambaresha - these are the names of great kings who ruled great kingdoms with great wealth. All of them got destroyed along with their bodies, wealth and kingdoms. They are alive today only because of their actions and fame.

यशस्तिलक - ज्ञान क्रिया

हतं ज्ञानं क्रियाशून्यं हता चाज्ञानिनः क्रिया ।
धावन्नप्यन्धको नष्टः पश्यन्नपि च पङ्गुकः ॥

hataM jnAnaM kriyAshUnyaM hatA ca ajnAninaH kriyA ।
dhavannapi andhako naShTaH pashyannapi ca pangukaH ॥

Knowledge is lost when not acted up on. Action without knowledge is meaningless. Even if a blind man can run fast, it will only lead to his loss. Even if a cripple can see, it is of no use.

वित्तं बंधुर्वयः कर्म विद्या भवति पञ्चमी ।
एतानि मान्यस्थानानि गरीयो यद्यदुत्तरम् ॥

vittaM bandhuH vayaH karma vidyA bhavati panchamI ।
etAni mAnya sthAnAni garIyo yad yad uttaram ॥

Money, relatives or friends, youth, actions and education - all these five make other people respect you. Also, they are arranged in their increasing order of influence.

समयोचितपद्यमालिका - धर्मानुष्ठान

परोपदेशे पाण्डित्यं सर्वेषां सुकरं नृणाम् ।
धर्मे स्वीयमनुष्ठानं कस्यचित्तु महात्मनः ॥

It is very easy to advise others what is the right thing to do. But there are very few noble men who put into action what they preach. It is very difficult to live by the code of Dharma all life.

याज्ञवल्क्य - धर्म कर्म

नाश्रमः कारणं धर्मे क्रियमाणो भवेद्धि सः ।
अतो यदात्मनोऽपथ्यं परेषां न तदाचरेत् ॥

- याज्ञवल्क्य

It is not the hermitage that constitutes Dharma. It is the actions of people in a hermitage that qualifies as Dharma. Wise men know this. Hence they will not encourage people to rush to hermitages as a way to follow Dharma. Wise men will not advise to others what they know will not work.

कर्मणा मनसा वाचा परपीडां करोति यः ।
तद्बीजं जन्म फलति प्रभूतं तस्य समाचरेत् ॥

If a person hurts others through his action, words or thought then its consequences will make him suffer in the subsequent lives.

कर्मणा जायते सर्वं कर्मैव गतिसाधनम् ।
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन साधु कर्म समाचरेत् ॥

Action leads to everything. Without action there would be nothing. Good action begets good results. Bad action begets misery. Hence one must always strive to do good deeds.

मनुस्मृति - कर्मफल

एकः प्रजायते जन्तुरेक एव प्रलीयते ।
एकोऽनुभुन्क्ते सुकृतं एक एव च दुष्कृतम् ॥

- मनुस्मृति

Beings come to this world alone. They die alone. Alone must they enjoy the fruits of the good deeds. Alone must they suffer the fruits of their mis-deeds.

सर्वस्य हि शास्त्रस्य कर्मणो वाऽपि कस्यचित् |
यावत् प्रयोजनं नोक्तं तावत् तत् केन गृह्यते ||

One must always tell the use (or applications) of any knowledge, wisdom or any action. If people do not see applications, they will not pay attention to it.

किरातार्जुनीय - सिद्धिप्राप्तिः

यशोऽधिगंतुं सुखलिप्सया वा
    मनुष्यसंख्यामतिवर्तितुं वा |
निरुत्साकानामभियोगभाजां
    समुत्सुकेवांकमुपैति सिद्धिः ||

Greatness like fame, happiness and ability to rise above human mediocrity comes naturally (as if coincidental) to people who have trained themselves not to react to joy and sadness and believe in action
