पञ्चरात्र - क्रतुः


इक्ष्वाकुशर्यातिययातिराममांधातृनाभागनृगांबरीषाः।
एते सकोशाः पुरुषाः सराष्ट्राः नष्टाः शरीरैः क्रतुभिर्धरन्ते ॥

IkshvAku, Sharyati, Yayati, Rama, Mandhatru, Nabhaga, Nruga and Ambaresha - these are the names of great kings who ruled great kingdoms with great wealth. All of them got destroyed along with their bodies, wealth and kingdoms. They are alive today only because of their actions and fame.

यशस्तिलक - ज्ञान क्रिया


हतं ज्ञानं क्रियाशून्यं हता चाज्ञानिनः क्रिया ।
धावन्नप्यन्धको नष्टः पश्यन्नपि च पङ्गुकः ॥

Knowledge is lost when not acted up on. Action without knowledge is meaningless. Even if a blind man can run fast, it will only lead to his loss. Even if a cripple can see, it is of no use.

याज्ञवल्क्य - धर्म कर्म


नाश्रमः कारणं धर्मे क्रियमाणो भवेद्धि सः ।
अतो यदात्मनोऽपथ्यं परेषां न तदाचरेत् ॥

It is not the hermitage that constitutes Dharma. It is the actions of people in a hermitage that qualifies as Dharma. Wise men know this. Hence they will not encourage people to rush to hermitages as a way to follow Dharma. Wise men will not advise to others what they know will not work.

Greatness like fame, happiness and ability to rise above human mediocrity comes naturally (as if coincidental) to people who have trained themselves not to react to joy and sadness and believe in action
