- bhAgavata

This body, children, wives will not stay for ever. Neither will your personal army. Even after seeing them destroyed, you are not seeing the truth that none of it is permanent.

भागवत - धर्मज्ञाः

देहवाग्बुद्धिजं धीरा धर्मज्ञाः श्रद्धयान्विताः ।

- bhAgavata

It is natural that man commits sins by his action - of body, speech and intellect. But there are a few people who are courageous, know Dharma and have faith who can live their life so well that they destroy all those sins - as easily as fire destroys a cluster of bamboo shoots.

गरुडपुराण - मुक्तिः

देहदण्डनमात्रेण का मुक्तिरविवेकिनां ।

valmIka tADanAt eva mRutaH kutra mahoragaH ॥

- garuDa purAna

How can one get salvation only by hurting his body? One must be a fool to believe so. Will beating the ant hill kill the big snake? Body is the anthill. The attributes of the soul interested in the worldly pleasure is the snake. Until those attributes are squashed, the soul can not be liberated.

taM tu desham na pashyAmi yatra bhrAta sahodaraH ॥

- rAmAyaNa, yuddha

One may get wives in different places (countries) you visit. You may even get new relatives and friends. But I have not yet seen a country where one can get a brother (born from the same womb). (So, Ayodhya is special to me - as told by Rama).

dUrastho jnAyate sarvaH parvate javalanAdivat ।
chUDamaNiH shirastho api dRuShyate na sva chakShuShA ॥

- rAmAyanamanjarI, kiAShkindA

When things are far away, its a different perspective. Hence we can see things clearly - like a fire lit on top of a hill. But sometimes things very close to us can not be seen - like the gem on our crown can never be seen by our own eyes (without a mirror).

If guests come from far off places and spend time happily with you, only then can you be called as a good household man. The rest of the men are just guarding the house.
