कादंबरी - खलाः


कटु क्वणंतो मलदायकः खलाः
    तुदंत्यलं बंधनशृंखला इव ।
मनस्तु साधुध्वनिभिः पदे पदे
    हरंति संतो मणिनूपुरा इव ॥

kaTu kvaNanto maladAyakaH khalaaH
    tudanti alam bandhana shRunkala iva ।
manastu sAdhu dhvanibhiH pade pade
    haranti santo maNinUpurA iva ॥

Wicked people always speak harshly and dirty. Their words cause harsh noise and pain just like chains tied to your feet. On the other hand noble men are like anklets made of pearls - they make very pleasing sounds and never hurt.

सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - पात्रमायांति संपदः


नोदन्वानर्थितामेति सदांभोभिः प्रपूर्यते ।
आत्मा तु पात्रानां नेयः पात्रमायांति संपदः ॥

सुभाषितसुधानिधि - सतां मार्गः


अनुगंतुं सतां वर्त्म यदि कृत्स्नं न शक्यते ।
स्वल्पमप्यनुगंतव्यं मार्गस्थो नावसीदति ॥

उत्तररामचरित - वाचन


सर्वथा व्यवहर्तव्यं कुतोह्यवचनीयता |
यथा स्त्रीणां तथा वाचां साधुत्वे दुर्जनो जनः ||

How can one be silent in the face of adversary? One has to talk (and defend himself). When it is the matter of some one accusing you of something, or hurting the ladies - inaction is not an option. One is called noble only when wickedness is paid back in the same coin.
