इदमेव हि पाण्डित्यं चातुर्यमिदमेव हि ।
इदमेव सुबुद्धित्त्वमायादल्पतरो व्ययः ॥

इदमस्खलितं धारय वारय परुषाक्षरा वाचः ।
एकः सकलजनानां जगति रिपुः परुषवाक् पुरुषः ॥

पञ्चरात्र - क्रतुः


इक्ष्वाकुशर्यातिययातिराममांधातृनाभागनृगांबरीषाः।
एते सकोशाः पुरुषाः सराष्ट्राः नष्टाः शरीरैः क्रतुभिर्धरन्ते ॥

ete sakoshAH puruShA sarAShTrAH naShTAH sharIraiH kratubhiH dharante ॥

IkshvAku, Sharyati, Yayati, Rama, Mandhatru, Nabhaga, Nruga and Ambaresha - these are the names of great kings who ruled great kingdoms with great wealth. All of them got destroyed along with their bodies, wealth and kingdoms. They are alive today only because of their actions and fame.

पञ्चतंत्र - मित्रभेद - नृपतिः


आसन्नमेव नृपतिर्भजते मनुष्यं
    वुद्याविहीनमकुलीनमसंस्कृतं वा ।
प्रायेण भूमिपतयः प्रमदा लताश्च
    यत्पार्श्वतो भवति तत्परिवेष्टयन्ति ॥

Asannameva nRupatirbhajate manuShyaM
    vidyAvihInamakulInamasaMskRutaM vA ।
prAyeNa bhUmipatayaH pramAdA latAshcha

A king will confide with a person who is always close to him even if he is not well educated, not of noble family and neither has good conduct. Be it a weak king, women or a creeper - they all seek support in whatever is physically close to them.

आलस्यं यदि न भवेज्जगत्यनर्थः
    को न स्याद् बहु धनको बहुश्रुतो वा ।
आलस्यादियमवनिः ससागरांता
    संपूर्णा नरपशुभिश्च निर्धनैश्च ॥

Alasyam yadi na bhavet jagati anarthaH
    ko na syAd bahu dhanako bahushruto vA ।
