मनुस्मृति - पश्चाताप

कृत्वा पापं हि सन्तप्य तस्मात्पात्प्रमुच्यते ।
नैवं कुर्यां पुनरिति निवृत्त्या पूयते तु सः

- मनुस्मृति

A sinner will get his redemption from the sin and becomes pure if he truly feels remorse for his act and wows not to repeat it ever.

सभारंजनशतक - लोभ

किं दातुरखिलैर्दोषैः किं लुब्धस्याखिलैर्गुणैः ।
न लोभादधिको दोषो न दानाधिको गुणः ॥

- सभारंजनशतक

It does not matter if a generous person has some defects. It does not matter if a greedy person has all the good qualities. There is no greater vice than greed. There is no greater quality than being generous.

कर्मणा मनसा वाचा परपीडां करोति यः ।
तद्बीजं जन्म फलति प्रभूतं तस्य समाचरेत् ॥

- विष्णुपुराण

If a person hurts others through his action, words or thought then its consequences will make him suffer in the subsequent lives.

विष्णुपुराण - कर्म

कर्मणा जायते सर्वं कर्मैव गतिसाधनम् ।
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन साधु कर्म समाचरेत् ॥

Action leads to everything. Without action there would be nothing. Good action begets good results. Bad action begets misery. Hence one must always strive to do good deeds.

प्रश्नोत्तर रत्नमालिका

कः पथ्यतरो धर्मः कः शुचिरिह यस्य मानसं शुद्धम् ।
कः पंडितो विवेकी किं विषमवधीरणा गुरुषु ॥

What is the ideal way to live? By following dharma (moral code of life). Who can be called clean? He whose mind is clean. Who is wise? He who is patient and logical. Which act is despicable? Showing disrespect to elders and teachers.

दूतवाक्य - संबंधः

कर्तव्यो भ्रातृषु स्नेहो विस्मर्तव्याः गुणेतराः ।
संबंधो बंधुभिः श्रेयान् लोकयोरुभयोरपि ॥

- दूतवाक्य

One must show love and affection towards brothers (relatives and friends in general). One must show leniency while dealing with their mistakes and shortcomings. Being so will bring good fortune both in this world as well as the other.

मनुस्मृति - आचारः

एवमाचारतो दृष्ट्वा धर्मस्य मुनयो गतिम् ।
सर्वस्य तपसो मूलं आचारं जगृहुः परम् ॥

Righteous living is the basis of dharma - the moral code of life. The sages have known this for ever. So they say that every penance has its root in righteous living.
