पञ्चतंत्र - काकोलूकीय - न्याय

मानाद्वा यदि वा लोभात् क्रोधाद्वा यदि वा भयात् ।
यो न्यायमन्यथा ब्रूते स याति नरकं नरः ॥

If a person (judge) gives bad judgment due to prejudice, greed or fear he will go to hell.

हितोपदेश - सन्धि - आत्मवत्सर्वभूतेषु

मातृवत्परदारेषु परद्रव्येषु लोष्ठवत् ।
आत्मवत्सर्वभूतेषु यः पश्यति स पण्डितः ॥

- हितोपदेश, सन्धि

A wise man will treat other people's wives as his own mother. He treats other people's wealth as a lump of mud (stone). He will treat every being in this world with compassion as he would treat himself.

हितोपदेश - विद्या

माता शत्रुः पिता वैरी बालो येन न पाठितः ।
न शोभते सभा मध्ये हंसमध्ये बको यथा ॥

- हितोपदेश

Both the mother and father are enemies of a child if they do not educate him. He will be a misfit in any gathering - like a duck among swans.

पञ्चतंत्र - मित्रभेद - बुद्धिमतः

महतां योऽपराध्येते दूरस्थोऽस्मीति नाश्वसेत् ।
दीर्घौ बुद्धिमतो बाहू ताभ्यां हिंसति हिंसकम् ॥

One must not hurt mighty people, run away and live peacefully. The arms of wise men are long (great reach) and they will hurt you back.

योगवासिष्ठ - वैराग्य - आत्मविदः

भारोऽविवेकिनः शास्त्रं भारो ज्ञानं च रागिणः ।
अशान्तस्य मनो भारः भारोऽनात्मविदो वपुः ॥

An idiot would find the scriptures heavy. A person who enjoys worldly pleasures finds knowledge heavy and unbearable. A restless man finds his mind heavy. If one does not know his self, he will find his body heavy.

भागवतमाहात्म - विवेक

भाग्योदयेन बहुजन्मसमार्जितेन
    सत्संगमं च लभते पुरुषो यदा वै ।
अज्ञानहेतुकृतमोहमदांधकार
    नाशं विधाय हि तदोदयते विवेकः ॥

When one accumulates a lot of good karma over lot of births, he come to a fortune of knowing virtuous people. With such association, he can learn to defeat the darkness called - attachment and pride. Once the darkness is lifted, the path to wisdom is illuminated.

सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - न संतापमाप्नुयात्

भये वा यदि वा हर्षे संप्राप्ते यो विमर्शयेत् ।
कृत्यं न कुरुते वेगान्न स संतापमाप्नुयात् ॥

He will always prosper who pauses to analyze when ever he feels fear as well as happiness. Such people will never hurry any of their work.
