सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - माता पिता गुरु


पित्रोर्नित्यं प्रियं कुर्यादाचार्यस्य च सर्वदा ।
तेषु हि त्रिषु तुष्टेषु तपः सर्वं समाप्यते ॥

pitrOH nityaM priyaM kuryAd AchAryasya cha sarvadaa ।
teShu hi triShu tuShTeShu tapaH sarvam samApyate ॥

One must try to please the parents and the teacher every day. If you can make these three are happy, you can consider all penances as complete.

मातरं पितरं गुरुम्


स्वाधीनं समतिक्रम्य मातरं पितरं गुरुम् ।
अस्वाधीनं कथं दैवं प्रकारैरभिराध्यते ॥



svAdhInaM samatikramya mAtaraM pitaraM gurum ।
asvAdhInaM kathaM daivaM prakAraiH abhirAdhyate ॥


Mother, father and teacher are the Gods that we see. What kind of religion is that which tells us to forget them and go behind Gods that we do not see?

जनिता चोपनेता च यश्च विद्यां प्रयच्छति ।
अन्नदाता भयत्राता पंचैते पितरः स्मृताः ॥

The following people must be treated with respect as if they were our fathers - one who gives birth, one who initiates us to the sanatana dharma, one who teaches us, one who gives us food and one who protects us and rescues us from fear.

न शोभते सभा मध्ये हंसमध्ये बको यथा ॥

रामायण - अयोध्या - पितुर्वचन

Nothing is above the Dharma (the moral code of life). There is no greater truth than dharma. Following one's father's advice is hence the first thing to do (given that his advice is according to dharma).
