After washing the elephant, if it is left free, it will get muddy in a second. But if you keep it restrained, then it will remain clean. Similarly, our mind becomes clean when it comes in contact with a virtuous person. But if you talk to rogue later, it will again become polluted. However, if you can restrain it by thinking about God at all times, then it can kept clean and pure.

Elephants and Kings have some qualities in common. They are very strong and self made. They both lose weight (become weak) when they are unhappy (in trouble).

A wise must emulate good qualities from everywhere - speech of a parrot, concentration of a crane, chewing (deliberation) of a goat and relaxed bathing of an elephant.

Poison can be neutralised by another kind of poison. Diamond can be cut only by diamond. Only a stronger elephant can catch an elephant. Such is the nature of innate character.

Scholars rarely utter words because they think too much before uttering any word. But once they utter, they will not take it back. Elephants grow tusks very late. But once they do, they look magnificent.

Let the jackals taking shelter on either sides of the elephant do their harshest noises. Let the crows on top create havoc. The elephant sees the path it wants to go with its half closed eyes and puts one step on another being least bothered about the distractions. It will not even break its eyebrows. Such is the concentration and steadiness of virtuous men.

The stars follow the moon even when Rahu engulfs him (eclipse). When a tree falls down in a forest, the creepers fall along with it. When the tusker gets its foot entangled with lotus plants, the female elephants do not abandon it. It is in the nature of a virtuous wife to follow her husband in glory or misery alike.

The brave soldiers win the war outside the country. But the benefits are enjoyed by rumormongers and ear biters with in the state. Just like all the hard work is done by the tusks of the elephant and the internal molars enjoy biting the food.

Look at the difference between a dog and an elephant. A dog shakes its tail, falls at the feet, shows a sorry face and does belly up antics in front of the person who gives it food. But an elephant maintains its composure, majestic look. On the other hand, the mahout has to cajole the elephant with hundred nice words in order to make it eat. We all have choices whether to behave like a dog or an elephant.
