सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - श्रीः

सा श्रीर्या न मदं कुर्यात्स सुखी तृष्णयोज्झितः ।
तन्मित्रं यत्र विश्वासः पुरुषः स जितेंद्रियः ॥

sA shrIH yA na madam kuryAt sa sukhI tRuShNa yo jjhitaH ।
tat mitram yatra vishvAsaH puruShaH sa jitendriyaH ॥

Money is called wealth only when it does not intoxicate you. You can be happy only when you don't have any desires. He is a friend only when he can be trusted. One can be called as a man only when he can control his senses.

समयोचितपद्यरत्नमालिका - पुमान् नारी

घृतकुंभसमा नारी तप्तांगारसमः पुमान् ।
तस्माद्घृतं च वह्निं च नैकत्र स्थापयेद् बुधः ॥

ghRutakumbha samaa nArI tapta angAra samaH pumAn ।
tasmAt ghRutam cha na ekatra sthApayed budhaH ॥

A woman is like a pot of ghee and man is like a ball of fire. If they come in contact, it will create havoc. Hence wise people will not keep them together in the same place.

समयोचितपद्यमालिका - बकवद् ध्यानमाचरेत्

शुकवद् भाषणम् कुर्याद् बकवद्ध्यानमाचरेत् ।
अजवच्चवर्णं कुर्याद् गजवत् स्नानमाचरेत् ॥

shukavad bhAShaNam kuryAd bakavad dhyAnam aacharet ।
ajavat chavarNam kuryAd gajavat snAnam aachareyt ॥

- samayochitapadyamAlikA

A wise must emulate good qualities from everywhere - speech of a parrot, concentration of a crane, chewing (deliberation) of a goat and relaxed bathing of an elephant.

भागवत - मानव

रजोभिः समसंख्याकाः पार्थिवैरिह जंतवः ।
तेषां ये केचनेहंते श्रेयो वै मनुजादयः ॥

rajobhiH samam sankhyaakAH pArthivaiH iha jantavaH ।
teShAm ye kechana ihante shreyo vai manujAdayaH ॥

In this world there are as many beings as particles of dust. Among them only a handful of them are capable of thinking about their own welfare. Mankind is one among them.

A veena can not play melodiously without the strings. A chariot can not move without the wheels. A wife can not live happily without her man (after his death) even if she has hundred children.

Who a girl marries depends a lot on her fathers efforts. There is also a lot of luck involved. From our previous experience, these are the only two factors that determines who a girl marries - father's effort and luck.

कन्याश्च वरस्यापि यत्रोभयोर्भवेद्रतिः ।
तथा कन्यां वरो धीमान् वरयेद्वंशशुद्धये ॥

kanyAshcha varasyApi yatra ubhayoH bhavet ratiH ।

First one must exercise reasonable patience. Then We must try to concede some ground - compromise. Then we must try to penetrate the adversary's thinking and try to change it. All these are the methods are to be employed separately or together to win over an enemy. Waging a war is never a solution.
