सूक्तिमुक्तावली - स्पर्शमणिः

लोहं स्पर्शात्स्वर्णं स्पर्शमणेर्यत्रकुत्रचित्क्षिप्तम् ।
तद्वच्चरणस्पर्शाद् भक्तः कृष्णस्य विमलः स्यात् ॥

tadvat charaNasparshAd bhaktaH kRuShNasya vimalaH syAt ॥

A touchstone can turn any metal to gold any where by simply touching it. Just like that, getting a chance to touch the feet of Lord Krishna will purify you completely.

सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - कुकृते को न पंडितः

बंधुः को नाम दुष्टानां कुप्येत्को नातियाचितः ।
को न तृप्यति वित्तेन कुकृते को न पंडितः ॥

bandhuH ko nAma duShTAnAm kupyet ko na ati yAchitaH ।
ko na tRupyati vittena kukRute ko na panDitaH ॥

Does a wicked man have any friends? Who will not get angry at a persistent beggar? Who can not be satiated by money? Who is not an expert at sin?

असंबद्धप्रलापश्च वाज्ञ्मयं स्याच्चतुर्विधम् ||

Harsh words (hurting some one with words), dishonesty, calumny, banter - these are the four sins that can be committed by speech.

Habitual drinking (of alcohol), friendship with bad people, living away from her husband, wandering aimlessly, sleeping or living in some one else's home - these are the six bad habits that are forbidden for women.

The results of the deeds of cruelty (against dharma the code of life) are not immediately apparent unlike the benefits of domesticating a cow (you get milk on day one). Slowly the effects of mis-deeds surround the doer and cut the very roots of the source. Perpetrating cruelty will always end in the destruction of the culprit.

One must stay clear of the following sins both in action and thought - picking up useless things (stealing), loafing around aimlessly, ogling, lying, loose talk (slander), hurting others.
