सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - श्रीः


सा श्रीर्या न मदं कुर्यात्स सुखी तृष्णयोज्झितः ।
तन्मित्रं यत्र विश्वासः पुरुषः स जितेंद्रियः ॥

Money is called wealth only when it does not intoxicate you. You can be happy only when you don't have any desires. He is a friend only when he can be trusted. One can be called as a man only when he can control his senses.

सहस्व श्रियमन्येषां यद्यपि त्वयि नास्ति सा ।
अन्यत्रापि सतीं लक्ष्मीं कुशला भुंजते सदा ॥

If you see wealth (that you don't have) with others, don't feel jealous. Just live with it. You must understand that if you have done good things in the past, then you will be able to enjoy the wealth even if it does not belong to you.

कोऽर्थान् प्राप्य न गर्वितो विषयिणः कस्यापदोऽस्तं गताः
    स्त्रीभिः कस्य न खण्डितं भुवि मनः को नाम राजप्रियः ।
कः कालस्य न गोचरत्वमगमत् कोऽर्थी गतो गौरवं
    को वा दुर्जयदुर्गुणेषु पतितः क्षेमेण जातः पथि ॥

अत्युच्चपदाध्यासः पतानायेत्यर्थशालिनां शंसत् ।
आपांडुपततिपत्रं तरोरिदं बंधनग्रंथेः ॥




ati uccha padAdhyAsaH patAnAyeti arthashAlinAm shamsat ।
ApAnDu patati patram taroH idam bandhana grantheH ॥



It is the same fate that awaits people reach the top using wealth. When a leaf turns white (pale), it loses the connection to the tree and falls off.

It is called wealth only when it is in your hands (liquid). He is a friend who stands by you always when you are in trouble. Beauty is complete only when there are good qualities in the person. It is knowledge only when it makes you follow the moral code of life (Dharma).
