किं धनेन कुबेरस्य सुभाषितगुणेन किं ।

What good is wealth for Kubera? What good are subhashitas for Bruhaspati (teacher of Gods)? What good is a torch for Sun? What good is a drop of water for the sea?

किमकार्यं कदर्याणां दुस्त्यजं किं धृतात्मनाम् ॥

What is intolerable for the virtuous people? What will the scholars long for? What will a rogue think as "undoable"? What will self realized people find hard to give up?

One must not indulge too much in worldly pleasures like damsels, sweets and other eateries. If you stay at home all day savouring these pleasures, then you will be burning your lifetime into ashes.

भूमिस्तोयं खन्यमाना ददाति ।
सोत्साहानां नास्त्यसाध्यं नराणां
मार्गारब्धाः सर्वयत्नाः फलंति ॥

bhUmiH toyam khanyamAnA dadAti ।

Fire can be made from just twigs and nothing else by rubbing together. If one digs the earth with effort, he will get water. If a person has enough enthusiasm, nothing is impossible. When efforts are put in the right direction, then success is guaranteed.

कालकर्मगुणाधीनो देहोऽयं पांचभौतिकः ।
कथामन्यांस्तु गोपयेत्सर्पग्रस्तो यथा परम् ॥

Every being in this world is not free. It is always controlled by time, actions and qualities. This body is made of five elements. How can such a being ever help another being escape from this plight? Can an animal (mice) caught in the mouth of a snake save anything else?

बुद्ध्यात्मना वा प्रकृतेः स्वभावात् ।
करोति यद्यत्सकलं परस्मै
नारायणायेति समर्पयेत्तत् ॥

buddhya AtmanA vA prakRuteH svabhAvAt ।
karoti yadyat sakalam parasmai

What ever you do with your body, speech, mind, senses, intellect, soul, by innate nature - should be offered in full to Him (Narayana).

We have a wonderful body. But there is always danger to it right round the corner. Misery follows closes on the heels of prosperity. All unions are followed by separation. Anything that is made will be destroyed.
