सहस्व श्रियमन्येषां यद्यपि त्वयि नास्ति सा ।
अन्यत्रापि सतीं लक्ष्मीं कुशला भुंजते सदा ॥

If you see wealth (that you don't have) with others, don't feel jealous. Just live with it. You must understand that if you have done good things in the past, then you will be able to enjoy the wealth even if it does not belong to you.

One needs ropes and blinds to control a horse. One needs hooks to control an elephant. The king needs to follow his duties (Rajadharma) to control the dealings of the world.

One must not be too soft. People will ridicule them. One must not be too aggressive. People will be anxious around them. One must not be too soft or too aggressive always. One must be soft and aggressive as required.

परस्परं तयोर्जन्म निर्द्वंद्वं नोपलभ्यते ॥

There are two kinds of origins for disease – one is from he body and the other is mental. They are interdependent one each other. Without one, the other does not exist. All diseases are part physical and part mental. Solve one and the other gets solved by itself.

For a person with restraint, an abundant forest is nothing because he does not wish to own anything more than what he needs. For a person with out restraints, the forest again is not enough because the entire forest can not satiate him. Where ever the ascetic lives, that is a forest – that is also a hermitage.

कनिष्ठं भ्रातृवित्तं च स्त्रीवित्तमधमाधमम् ॥

A virtuous person will earn and spend his own money. A normal person will spend his father's money. A lowly person will spend his brother's money. A rogue among rogues will spend money that belongs to a lady.

इति चिंतयतामेव जीर्णमायुः शरीरिणाम् ॥

One must defeat himself (senses) first. Then he can think about defeating his enemies. If one can not defeat his own senses how can he defeat external enemies?

Health, wisdom, friendship of virtuous people, birth in a noble family, personal freedom - these are the wealth that one can get even without any money.

Wealth has to be used to get more wealth just like tame elephants are used to capture and tame the wild elephants. In this world, people will never remember the person they received help from after having benefited from them.

उत्पद्यंते त्रयः पक्षा मित्रोदासीनशत्रवः ॥

Even a sage living all by himself in a forest will not be able to love/hate everyone/everything alike. Even he will have three kinds of relations - friends, ignored and foes.

Starting a home (and family) always leads to pain and suffering. It never leads to (permanent) happiness. Ants that build the anthill are always under tension (due to attachment). A snake that takes over their home spends its time happily.
