कायस्य सत्सेव्यमसेवकत्वं
    पाणेरुनुत्तानतलत्वमेव ॥

- chaturvargasangraha

A virtuous man should never show (self) pity on his face. Mind is its best when it is free from greed. Words are best used when they are not used for begging. The body is best used when serving virtuous people or being free from servitude. The palm is best used when it is never looking upwards (begging). It must always look down (giving).
