सूक्तिमुक्तावली - ईशस्य सदयत्वं

ईशोऽस्मत्पोषणकृत् स्वीकुर्मो नहितावताऽस्य सदयत्वं
    सर्वस्यापि पितुस्तत्कर्मैवावश्यकं विदुः सर्वे ।
सहिचेदस्मान्भक्तान् विषयविषाध्वनः परावृत्य
    सन्मार्गे निजसुखदो नस्यादन्यस्ततः सदय इह ॥

iishaH asmat poShaNa kRut svIkurmo nahi tAvatA asya sadayatvam
    sarvasya api pituH tat karma eva avashyakam viduH sarve ।
sahichet asmAn bhaktaan viShaya viShAd adhvanaH parAvRutya
    sanmArge nijasukhado na syAt anyaH tatatH sadaya iha ॥

God provides for us all. This is accepted. But that does not make him kind and compassionate. Everybody knows that every father does the same for his children - provide and protect. However, God also saves us devotees from the path of material pleasures and puts us on the good path of Dharma. This is what makes him truly kind and compassionate.
