चतुर्वर्गसंग्रह - दान सत्य शील क्षांति

न दानतुल्यं धनमन्यदस्ति
    न सत्यतुल्यं व्रतमन्यदस्ति ।
न शीलतुल्यं शुभमन्यदस्ति
    न क्षांतितुल्यं हितमन्यदस्ति ॥

na dAnatulayam dhanamanyadasti
    na satyatulyam vratamanyadasti ।
na shIlatulyam shubhamanyadasti
    na kShAnti tulayam hitamanyadasti ॥

There is no better wealth than which is spent in charity. No better penance than truth. Nothing more auspicious than character. Nothing more pleasing than patience.

It is perhaps true what people say about patience. Good times will come to people if they stay alive and wait patiently.

क्षमया जय विप्रेंद्रान् दयया जय संश्रितान् ।
तत्त्वबुद्ध्या जयात्मानं तेजसा जय पार्थिवान् ॥

atRuNe patito vahniH svayam eva upashAmyate ॥

What harm can a rogue inflict on someone who is armed with the sword of patience? When a fire falls over a barren land with no grass, it dies by itself. A wicked man's anger often feeds on the victim's impatience and reciprocation.

समयोचितपद्यमालिका - क्षमा

क्षमा धनुः करे यस्य दुर्जनः किं करिष्यति ।
अतृणे पतितो वह्निः स्वयमेवोपशाम्यति ॥

kShamA dhanuH kare yasya durjanaH kiM kariShyati ।
atRuNe patito vahniH svayameva upashamyate ॥

If one is armed with patience, no wicked person can harm him. Fire that falls were there is no dry grass dies on its own.

याज्ञवल्क्य - धर्मसाधनम्

अहिंसा सत्यमस्तेयं शौचमिंद्रियनिग्रहः ।
दानं दमो दया क्षान्तिः सर्वेषां धर्मसाधनम् ॥

Non violence, truth, refraining from any stealing, cleanliness (morally as well as physically), control over senses, charity, self restraint, compassion, patience (and forgiveness) are the ways one can adopt to follow Dharma.

अक्रोधेन जयेत् क्रोधमसाधुं साधुना जयेत् |

One must show patience to win over anger, virtue to win over the ignoble, benevolence to win over the miserly and truth over deceit.

पञ्चतंत्र - मित्रभेद - साम दण्ड

साम्नैव यत्र सिद्धिः न तत्र दण्डो बुधेन विनियोज्यः |
पित्तं यदि शर्करया शाम्यति कोऽर्थः पटोलेन ||

What can be got by exercising reasonable patience must never be escalated to a full fledged conflict. The wise men know this. Sour sensation in the mouth can be mitigated by eating sugar. Why would one resort to bitter-gourd instead?

पञ्चतंत्र - मित्रभेद - विद्वेषः

न चन्द्रेण न औषध्या न सूर्येण न वह्निना |
साम्नैव विलयं याति विद्वेष्रभवं तमः ||

The darkness caused by hatred can not be overcome by moon (moonlight), nor by the sun, also not by any fire. It can only be dealt with by pacifying patiently.

किरातार्जुनीय - विमृश्यकारिणः

सहसा विदधीत न क्रियां
    अविवेकः परमापदां पदम् |
वृणते हि विमृश्यकारिणं
    गुणलुब्धाः स्वयमेव संपदः ||

- किरातार्जुनीय

One must not hurry while starting something important. If you hurry, it is a recipie for disaster. Success automatically comes to those who patiently plan before starting something. Success is attracted towards such qualities.

पञ्चतंत्र - मित्रभेद - विमर्श

भये वा यदि वा हर्षे संप्राप्ते यो विमर्शयेत् |
कृत्यं न कुरुते वेगात् न स संतापमाप्नुयात् ||

He who ponders to think (and deliberates) when confronted with fear or extreme happiness and who would never react in a hurry will never be sad.
