चतुर्वर्गसंग्रह - दान सत्य शील क्षांति


न दानतुल्यं धनमन्यदस्ति
    न सत्यतुल्यं व्रतमन्यदस्ति ।
न शीलतुल्यं शुभमन्यदस्ति
    न क्षांतितुल्यं हितमन्यदस्ति ॥

na dAnatulayam dhanamanyadasti
    na satyatulyam vratamanyadasti ।

What harm can a rogue inflict on someone who is armed with the sword of patience? When a fire falls over a barren land with no grass, it dies by itself. A wicked man's anger often feeds on the victim's impatience and reciprocation.

क्षमा धनुः करे यस्य दुर्जनः किं करिष्यति ।
अतृणे पतितो वह्निः स्वयमेवोपशाम्यति ॥

What can be got by exercising reasonable patience must never be escalated to a full fledged conflict. The wise men know this. Sour sensation in the mouth can be mitigated by eating sugar. Why would one resort to bitter-gourd instead?

किरातार्जुनीय - विमृश्यकारिणः


सहसा विदधीत न क्रियां
    अविवेकः परमापदां पदम् |
वृणते हि विमृश्यकारिणं
    गुणलुब्धाः स्वयमेव संपदः ||

One must not hurry while starting something important. If you hurry, it is a recipie for disaster. Success automatically comes to those who patiently plan before starting something. Success is attracted towards such qualities.
