सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - श्रीः

सा श्रीर्या न मदं कुर्यात्स सुखी तृष्णयोज्झितः ।
तन्मित्रं यत्र विश्वासः पुरुषः स जितेंद्रियः ॥

sA shrIH yA na madam kuryAt sa sukhI tRuShNa yo jjhitaH ।
tat mitram yatra vishvAsaH puruShaH sa jitendriyaH ॥

Money is called wealth only when it does not intoxicate you. You can be happy only when you don't have any desires. He is a friend only when he can be trusted. One can be called as a man only when he can control his senses.

सुभाषितरत्नभाण्डागार - भार्या

सा भार्या या प्रियं ब्रूते स पुत्रो यत्र निर्वृत्तिः ।
तन्मित्रं यत्र विश्वासः सदेशो यत्र जीव्यते ॥

sA bhAryA yA priyam brUte sa putro yatra nir vRuttiH ।
tat mitram yatra vishvAsaH sa desho yatra jIvyate ॥

समयोचितपद्यमालिका - सुख दुःख

सुखमध्ये स्थितं दुःखं दुःखमध्ये स्थितं सुखम् ।
द्वयमन्योन्यसंयुक्तं प्रोच्यते जलपंकवत् ॥

sukhamadhye sthitam duHkha duHkhamadhye sthitam sukham ।
dvayam anyonya samyuktam prochyate jala pankavat ॥

There is grief in the middle of happiness. There is happiness in the middle of grief. Both of them are entangled and cannot exist independently - inseparable just like mud and water in slush.

संतोषस्त्रिषु कर्तव्यः कलत्रे भोजने धने ।
त्रिषु चैव न कर्तव्योऽध्ययने जपदानयोः ॥

santoShaH triShu kartavyaH kalatre bhojane dhane ।
triShu chaiva na kartavyaH adhyayane japa dAnayoH ॥

One must observe strict limits when dealing with wife, food and wealth. No limits must be there in study, penance and charity.

सहस्व श्रियमन्येषां यद्यपि त्वयि नास्ति सा ।

If you see wealth (that you don't have) with others, don't feel jealous. Just live with it. You must understand that if you have done good things in the past, then you will be able to enjoy the wealth even if it does not belong to you.

sthAna sthitAni pUjante pUjante cha pade sthitAH ।
sthAna bhraShTA na pUjante kushA dantA nakhA narAH ॥

- garuDapurANa

Things that are in their useful positions and in helpful roles are respected. They will no longer be respected if they lose the position or cease to be helpful. Just like the holy grass, teeth, finer and toe nails. This applies to people as well.
